Dr. McArthur is a second generation veterinarian who is also married to a veterinarian. After graduating from UC Davis in 2001, she joined her father and her husband for a brief tenure in dairy practice. The following year, she took the leap into small animal practice and hasn’t looked back! Dr. McArthur has worked in the Sacramento area since 2002 as a general practitioner, a relief vet and an ER vet.
When Dr. McArthur isn’t in the ER, she finds joy in her many activities: knitting, weaving, soap making and pottery keep her hands and mind busy. You might also find her at The Studio in Roseville where she trains as a black belt in Taekwondo.
At home, Dr. McArthur and her husband are raising two amazing young humans as well as a herd of cats, a sweet old dog, chickens, a chinchilla and a highly talkative parrot named Howard.
Dr. McArthur founded Not One More Vet (NOMV) to address the mental health crisis within the veterinary profession. NOMV provides critical resources, peer support, and financial assistance to veterinary professionals facing emotional distress or crisis. Through their efforts, NOMV aims to create a community where veterinary professionals can thrive while promoting mental wellness. Read more about NOMV here: https://www.nomv.org/
Dr. McArthur was also featured in The Cost of Caring, a powerful documentary that sheds light on the alarming suicide rates within the veterinary profession. The film explores the daily challenges vets face, including burnout, compassion fatigue, and cyberbullying from clients, and highlights the urgent need for mental health awareness and support in the field.
